1969 SHELBY GT500 MUSTANG

1969 SHELBY GT500 MUSTANG

The 1969 Shelby may have been significantly different from their
predecessors in terms of styling, but one thing remained the same:
there was no mistaking them for any other car on the road. This was
the final year for Shelby GT350 and GT500 super cars. Unlike previous
models that retained the basic appearance of the host Mustang, the
1969 version featured a totally restyled front end with a full-width
grill, single headlamps and a chrome surround, the lower half of
which served as the front bumper. NACA-style ducting on the hood fed
fresh air to the engine and intake scoops on the fenders provided
cooling air to the front brakes. The rear end featured an integrated
spoiler, Thunderbird taillights and center-mounted cast exhaust bezel.

The Candy Apple Red (was Royal Maroon) GT500 offered here is powered
by the legendary 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air V8. Fitted with larger valve
heads, the competition 427's intake manifold, Holley 4bbl carburetor
and an oil-pan windage tray, the correctly-coded 335 horsepower
big-block is backed with Ford's heavy-duty C6 automatic with cast iron
tailshaft. The drivetrain includes Ford's stout 9-inch rear axle with
a 3.00:1  differential. Power steering and power front disc brakes are
standard in the GT500.

Like most of the later Shelby’s, this one is luxuriously optioned. The
Deluxe Interior Décor group is standard and includes white Clarion
knit vinyl bucket seats, a custom console with Stewart Warner gauges,
tilt away steering wheel with rim-blow horn, AM/8-track stereo, and a
roll bar with inertia-reel shoulder belts.

The Candy Apple Red paint and gold side stripes combine for one of the
most eye-catching Shelby color schemes. This well-detailed and correct
GT500, is listed in the SAAC Registry and accompanied with a Deluxe
Marti Report.
